Cosmetic Fillings at Layton Lakes Dental

At Layton Lakes Dental, we help you achieve a healthy, confident smile. Issues like cavities, chips, or stains can affect your health and self-esteem. We offer high-quality cosmetic fillings to repair damaged teeth while keeping a natural look.
Cosmetic fillings, also called tooth-colored or composite fillings, fix cavities, small cracks, or chips in your teeth. Unlike silver amalgam fillings, which stand out and are not the same color as your teeth, cosmetic fillings blend in. They are an excellent choice for anyone who wants to keep their smile looking good while ensuring their teeth are healthy and functional.
What Are Cosmetic Fillings?
Dental fillings fix problems like cavities, chips in front teeth, or damage near the gum line. Composite resin is the most common filling material because it is strong and matches natural teeth. These white fillings can be used on both front and back teeth. Layton Lakes Dental offers quality fillings to help restore your smile. Cosmetic fillings are applied most often for:
- Treating tooth cavities resulting from tooth decay.
- Restoring chipped and cracked teeth due to accidents or attrition.
- Closing small spaces between teeth to improve the smile as a whole.
- Replacing long-term metal fillings to improve the look of the teeth.
- Shaping the teeth to make them appear more even.
Benefits of Cosmetic Fillings
Most patients prefer cosmetic fillings over metal fillings since they are the same color as the teeth and are longer-lasting. Some of the key benefits are:
- 1. Aesthetic Attraction – The tooth-colored filling material is subtly incorporated with your teeth, creating an attractive yet subtle choice.
- 2. Sturdiness – The composite fillings are strong and durable, safeguarding your smile for many years.
- 3. Bonding Strength – The filling material is bonded to the tooth structure, offering extra reinforcement and a lower risk of fracture.
- 4. Minimally Invasive – Cosmetic tooth fillings are a simple way to make your teeth look better. Unlike dental veneers or crowns, they need very little of the tooth to be removed.
- 5. Mercury-Free – Composite fillings contain no mercury, unlike silver amalgam fillings, and are better for your body.
- 6. Versatile Application – Designed for numerous dental restorations, including filling cavities, repairing chipped surfaces, and reforming the shape of your teeth.
The Cosmetic Filling Process
Getting cosmetic fillings is a fast, painless, and usually one-visit process. Below is what you can anticipate from your procedure:
Initial Examination & Consultation
- Our experienced dentist, Dr. Subramanian, will use digital X-rays to inspect your teeth and gauge the extent of damage or decay.
- We'll sit down and talk with you about your options and recommend the most suitable way of restoring your smile.
Numbing the Site
- Local anesthesia is given to make the treatment painless.
- If you are nervous about dental treatment, sedation can be an added comfort to relax you during the treatment.
Removing Decay or Damage
- A decay or broken portion of the tooth is removed step by step.
- The remaining tooth structure is prepared and cleaned to take the filling.
Placing the Composite Resin
- The tooth-colored resin, which is dyed to the color of your tooth, is filled in layers and shaped to the natural form of your tooth.
- Every layer is cured using a special curing light.
Shaping & Polishing
- Our dentist will then shape the filling to a perfect finish and polish it to a brilliant, natural glow when hardened.
- The outcome will be unidentifiable from surrounding teeth.
How Long Do Cosmetic Fillings Last?
With good oral hygiene care, cosmetic fillings may last 7 to 10 years. For their maximum life span, we suggest:
- Brushing with fluoride toothpaste at least twice a day.
- Daily flossing to keep the area around the filling free of plaque.
- Avoiding hard or sticky foods that put too much stress on the filling.
- Scheduling regular visits to our office for professional cleanings and checkups.
Are Cosmetic Fillings Right for You?
Cosmetic fillings are best for most patients, but another procedure might be necessary in the case of very large cavities or areas of high-chewing stress. These are dental crowns or inlays/onlays. Our office will determine your specific needs and suggest the best restorative method.
Replacing Old Metal Fillings with Cosmetic Fillings
Most of our patients would prefer to replace their current metal (amalgam) fillings with cosmetic fillings for the more natural, mercury-free choice. Suppose you already have visible silver fillings when you smile or are concerned about how well they will hold up. In that case, we can safely remove and restore them with tooth-colored composite resin.
